Anoncoin - more Privacy

Anoncoin is supposed to be an altcoin that offers more privacy to its users.

It is designed on the zerocoin technology, which is practically a chain that imitates the one of the bitcoin and of other altcoins. The Anoncoin claims to be the “safety net” of altcoins .Why? Because if the Bitcoin disappears, the anoncoin will replace it, at least in the “underground side” of the internet.

I hardly doubt that, if the central banks decide to shut down the bitcoin, they will allow the other altcurrencies to exist. I am pretty sure that the anoncoin and any other virtual imitations will also disappear. The only anoncoins that will “survive” such genocide are the ones hidden in the i2p. Besides the controversies about its main claim, the idea of creating a “backup” for the Bitcoin is interesting. The idea is even more interesting because the Anoncoin is the only crypto that supports I2P/Tor. This gives complete anonymity, but we can’t say the same thing about security. This is an older idea, launched by the Zerocoin project. A Zerocoin is a mirror of the Bitcoin. When you want to “secure” your Bitcoins, you just need to exchange those into zerocoins. Then, when you need them again, you can exchange those to bitcoins again, after taking those through darknets.

Why the zerocoin idea and its derived cryptos can be contested

Zerocoin starts from the idea that the Bitcoin is not private, because people use public keys to sign transactions. They say that the Bitcoin ledger is public; therefore anybody can see the transactions. It is true, but it is not possible to see the parts involved in a trade. Maybe it is their diplomatic way of saying that Zerocoins have the main goal of being used on 12p.

Back to Anoncoins

The anoncoin is supposed to be safer than the bitcoin. We doubt that it will be, because it seems more like a laundry machine used for I2P or Tor, but it is nice to have it around, if you don’t mind premined currencies (1000 Blocks). The Anoncoins were launched almost one year ago, so they have passed numerous tests since now. Even if it was created as Bitcoin privacy support coin, it is a Litecoin clone. Anoncoin is supposed to be a “coin mixer”, which allows using those on darknets, so it can be used to “hide” any altcoin.

There will be 4.2 million coins in circulation. A block is generated once 3.42 minutes, and the difficulty changes once every four days. The value of a block halves every two years. There are only five coins rewarded per block, which makes it one of the extremely rare altcoins.

Namecoin - dying crypto

Namecoin has the advantage of being one of the first altcoins copying the Bitcoin Protocol.

It is based on the SHA-256 protocol, and its developers claim that it comes with some additional features that increase the transparency of transactions:

registering and transferring arbitrary keys

the possibility to create new domain names outside ICANN control, by creating new top level domains

attaching values to the names

secure trading features

expiration dates for names, which decrease the possibility of theft

The Namecoin was implemented in April 2011, a period in which the Bitcoin was just reaching its peaks. It was improved in February 2014 with a new version called FreeSpeechMe, which is a protocol allowing automatic resolution of .bit addresses.

The users must pay 0.01 NMC to register new domains, and then the owner has full ownership of the domain, including the possibility to close or transfer the domain.

Why is it special?

The system allows people to create identity systems, messaging systems and personal namespaces. It is mined just like the bitcoin, under a proof-of-work system. There will be 21 millions of Namecoins in circulation, when mining is supposed to end. Currently, the system generates 50 new Namecoins per block. Even if the Namecoin disappoints traders lately, it is still traded on major exchange websites such as BTC-E, Kraken and Cryptsy.

The Namecoin can be used to create cheap addresses, but the problem with those is that they are vulnerable. Many speculators use the Namecoin to buy cheap domains, to park those, hoping for a profit later.

Perspectives for the future

The Namecoin is not doing so great lately, as the charts show. Besides the flourishing period at the end of 2013, which was partially owned to the Bitcoin success, the charts are going down continuously. The Namecoin also had a good period when FreeSpeechMe was launched in February 2014, but since then, the impressive number of new coins appearing all the time and the lack of interest for developers for this altcoin might kill it soon.

Namecoin - dying crypto

Peer To Peer Coins - PeerCoin

The Bitcoin is indisputable the most important cryptocurrency today. However, since it became a mainstream idea in 2013, many specialists contested some aspects about it, such as the mining difficulty and the possibility of monopoles on mining and trading.

Some say that the bitcoin is a good idea, but it is still the first virtual currency invented, therefore there is room for improvements. Peer Coins were among the first cryptocurrencies made on the same script, meaning that those two coins share many characteristics, but they also come with differences. Let’s compare the Bitcoin with its three years younger follower, the PeerCoin.

Peer Coin uses the proof-of-stake mining system that allows dividing the blockchain of Peercoins in smaller blocks, which are easier to mine and obtain. The Peercoin is managed by the team that invented it, so it is not an open source concept, like the bitcoin. This is a little worrying, as the developers might have the possibility to manipulate it. On the other hand, what is the use of that? While the number of Bitcoins is limited to 21 million (which is expected to be reached by 2040), there is no limit for how many peercoins can be generated. This system was contested by specialists at the beginning, as it is a perquisite for inflation, which is practically impossible for Bitcoins. Time showed that inflation is even required for cryptocurrencies, as the opposite phenomenon, deflation, can be more dangerous.

Another interesting aspect about peercoins is the method used to calculate difficulty. While in the case of bitcoins, the difficulty grows once every 2016 blocks, for peercoins, this is calculated considering the number of miners. This means that the same old computer can be just as effective in mining peercoins over years, while for bitcoins, more performing miners are required. Peercoin comes with a default “inflation” of 1% per year, which is created by “destroying” the commissions of transactions. The inflation makes the peercoin to look alike real currencies, which is an advantage on the long term.

Well, there are also disadvantages: a simpler mining process means less security, and the Peercoin network was attacked many times. If you want to mine peercoins, you should compare the mining efficiency with the one of mining other cryptos.Coinwarz is the perfect website where you can find useful information about mining eficiency. You can also check our category with crypto miners, where you might find some ASICs that can mine bitcoins, litecoins and peercoins at the same time.

Peercoin is only one of the numerous cryptocurrencies appeared during the latest years. For now, it is in a “dormant” state, meaning that it only follows the direction given by bitcoins on exchange charts. On the other hand, considering the heavy contestations of bitcoiners about the BTC, which claim that mining monopole and deflation could destroy it, the peercoin might become the perfect alternative, especially because it prevents those two problems, in an effective and profitable manner.

What is a scamcoin – The Bluecoin Example

The scamcoins are those cloned algorithms, which bring absolutely nothing to the altcoin world, usually made for the goal of quick profit.

There is a small chance for an investor to ride the wave of profits with those coins. Usually, as soon as somebody invests in such a coin, it will disappear. Let’s see the characteristics of a scamcoin, with an example:

Bluecoin Review: The Profile of a scamcoin

Going through the altcoin news in a spree to find a new altcoin, I found this thread on Bitcointalk, talking about a new altcoin. The new invention is named bluecoin, and it really looks like a hit and dump attempt.

Lousy marketing

Besides this thread on Bitcointalk, there is nothing else about this coin online. If you search “bluecoin” online, you will find anything else but an altcoin. It seems like this guy tried to launch this coin a few months ago, but he renounced because of…something. According to this thread on Reddit, this “investor” or somebody else was looking for developers one month ago.

No website, no wallets, no miners

The “developers” didn’t even bother to make a Reddit thread about the coin. It seems like they need nothing else besides a thread on Bitcointalk. This shows that the altcoin will not spend too much time online. Sure, the developers will tell you that those are in development, and that they will make a website, and that the new coin will grow massively. but there will be no pools, bounties, wallets or any other form of online promotional method.

Premined

This currency comes with 3% premined coins. 1% will go to the developers, while the other 2% will go to the “community”. This means that the developers will have 1% of the coin already in their stock when the currency will be mined. This 1% is really good for a hit and dump move.

Characteristics

The numbers are just too rounded. There will be 1 billion coins released. A reward per block of 10 000, and it is based on the Scrypt algorithm of the litecoin. It seems like this newbie only copied another coin, but he was not even able to program the algorithm. This shows that this coin is made by dilettantes, and it does not stand a chance online.

Distribution:

– Scrypt

– Total Coins: ß1,000,000,000

– Block Reward: ß10000

– Total Blocks: 100,000

– POS After Block: 100,000

– Premine 3% for growth bounties, network maintenance, and coin expansion.

– Port TBD

What can be done to avoid scamcoins?

The scamcoins will usually have the same characteristics: premined, not well promoted, and without a strong support online. On the official thread of any altcoin, the bitcoiners will talk about it, asking some “delicate” questions for the developers. Read the entire thread before investing in an altcoin, see what others are saying, and only trade on reputed websites.

BlueCoin

BlueCoin started as a trading game, and as a cryptocurrency began as a bit of a joke.

It later gained the support of notable supporters like Charlie Shrem, and is gaining a reputation as a serious technogical innovator in the crypto space. Their community promises a clean water charity in keeping with the BLU theme, and the developers behind it are working on a number of innovations. The hybrid proof-of-stake/X11 scrypt mining set-up is ASIC and 51%-attack resistant, both proof systems are soon to be upgraded to be even more resilient. They also hope to add GHOST and coin join functionality for speedy confirmation times and enhanced user anonymity. Check their website at http://bluecoin.info/

Summer is almost upon us, ladies and gentlemen, and you know what that means : flashy, fashionable colors! The cryptocurrency scene is no exception to that this year, with BlackCoin, WhiteCoin, YellowCoin, ReddCoin, and now….BlueCoin!

I always say “you shouldn’t discriminate because of color”, so we try to cover all the “colored” cryptocurrencies here on CryptoArticles. We’re starting with BlueCoin today, and will look at YellowCoin,ReddCoin,OrangeCoin and WhatevercolorCoin that comes out as well.

BlueCoin is a Scrypt PoW/PoS hybrid, with a coin supply of 1,000,000,000 BLU. Blocks take 90 seconds to generate, and will reward you with 10,000 BLU. Difficulty re-targets every block.

There is a 3% pre-mine on BlueCoin, which will be used for bounties (to develop services, games, and whatnot), network maintenance, and coin expansion. I do hope some of that pre-mine will be sent to us for this article, harr harr!

As I mentioned, BlueCoin also has a PoS side to it, which will kick in after the 100,00th block has been mined. There will be PoS blocks afterwards, rewarding BlueCoin holders with a 3% annual stake, with a minimum stake age of 2 days. The annual PoS inflation will be roughly 3%.

Poloniex is the biggest exchange where you can buy, sell and trade BlueCoin. It’s not the only exchange though, as BLU/BTC trading pairs can also be found on BitTrex, NewCoinTrade, Europex and CoinSwap.
